Stone Age sites in Wadi al-Allaqi (Upper Egypt)

Unpublished materials related to several open–type localities investigated by participants of the Nubian Archaeological Expedition USSR Academy Sciences during 1962-1963 season in Wadi al-Allaqi area were found Palaeolithic Department Institute for History Material Culture Russian Sciences. Technical and typological analysis stone artefacts allows us attribute collections under discussion a long period from Middle Stone Age Mesolithic. Materials methods. The article examines three locations: Huqab-Abd-as-Salam 1, 4, Huqab-Karar. classification archaeological finds (186 items total) was carried out according various characteristics: raw materials. Many aspects, due incomplete preservation field documentation imperfect methods investigating open-type locations 60s last century, cannot be clarified at this stage. Results discussion. As result studying 4 Huqab-Karar, authors came conclusion about mixing different within collections, presence least two components: Paleolithic; "Mesolithic" era. Conclusions. In Huqab-Karar localities, assume cultural components – Paleolithic Levalloisian "Mesolithic". Further study other may allow expand picture somewhat.
